The vinyl strip is attached to the mount, hanging beneath the door when the sweep is mounted. This type of exterior door sweep generally utilizes a metal mount-oftentimes aluminum-that is screwed into the door. Mounted Strip SweepĪ mounted strip is similar in design to a peel & stick door sweep, but it’s mounted to the door, typically using screws. That said, peel & stick door sweeps typically aren’t the best permanent solution being that they aren’t as durable as those that are installed with fasteners. This means there’s no need to drill into the door, making it a great temporary solution-such as for those renting. Peel & stick door sweeps are the easiest to install being that they are applied with an adhesive strip. Let’s take a look at some of the most common. There are a variety of types of exterior door sweeps, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. They come in a variety of widths to fit standard door sizes. Door sweeps are installed on the outside face of the door, preventing dust, water, and other elements from building up beneath the door and entering the home.Įxterior door sweeps are typically made of vinyl, but they can also be made of brush material. Let’s take a look at some of the key elements to factor in for your new door sweep.Īn exterior door sweep is a device that helps to seal the space between the bottom of a door and the threshold. Whether you’re adding a door sweep or upgrading an existing one, there are important factors to consider when choosing an exterior door sweep. So how can homeowners stop this?Įxterior door sweeps are one of the most effective solutions to these issues. Oftentimes, drafts and pests enter the home the same way that people do-through the doorway. No one likes a pesky draft in the winter or dealing with insects or other pests in the summer.

Talk about coming a long way from a problematic concept to a most impressive horological achievement! For further details about one of the latest non-tourbillon V4’s, check out Ariel’s hands-on article here. And when I said “non-tourbillon,” you might have guessed just how exactly Tag Heuer will celebrate the 10th anniversary of this piece: that’s right, by revealing a new and further enhanced version, called the Monaco V4 Tourbillon, the world’s first micro-belt driven one-minute tourbillon. And although it is a rare phenomenon to be equally as shocked by something that you have already seen (although I could think of a few exceptions which I will not elaborate on), Tag Heuer surprised us all in 2009, when they announced that the Monaco V4 would be commercially available – even if in very limited quantities and at a rather steep price of around $100,000. Called the V4, it was nothing short of a shocking concept which, somewhat embarrassingly, was a long way away from functioning without problems.įor quite some time–for 5 years, to be exact–it remained just that, a concept. Today, we are looking at the piece with which the brand celebrates the tenth anniversary of what is one of the most technically impressive watches it has ever produced. The story goes that it was in 2004 when the brand presented a concept watch which, as a world first, utilized ultra-thin transmission belts in its movement. The micro-belt might not be visible at a first glance though, as it’s thinner than a strand of human hair.It is mind-boggling to think that one of Tag Heuer‘s most extraordinary creations, the Monaco V4 is already a bold ten years old. Five years later, TAG Heuer is making headlines with the Monaco V4 Tourbillon, the first tourbillon driven by belts. It cleverly redesigned an automatic movement by using micro-belts-akin to a Formula One car’s engine. Its premium watch line Monaco is synonymous with great racers, especially after actor Steve McQueen wore the timepiece in 1971 movie “Le Mans.” The avant-garde Swiss watchmaker took the piece to the next level with the release of Monaco V4 in 2009. SPECIFICATIONSĬase Material: Titanium, with black titanium carbide coatingĪmong a number of Swiss brands that closely associate themselves with sports car events, TAG Heuer is one that’s been consistently supporting Formula One over the years. There’s instead a tungsten mass bearing inscription “ TAG Heuer” that goes back and forth and winds the watch. The name V4 refers to the V-shaped main plate and the four barrels replacing usual oscillating weight in an automatic movement. MOVEMENTĭrawing inspiration from the Formula One motor engine, the tourbillon is now strapped to a micro-belt, which ensures consistent rotations with no backlash-considering the slight jerky motion happening between connected gears. This piece is designed in an all-black presentation, with the intricate dial sporting Côtes de Genève or Geneva stripe finishing. The Monaco V4 Tourbillon breaks a new ground as the first timepiece with a belt-driven tourbillonĪ Monaco timepiece from TAG Heuer is easily recognizable with the iconic square-shaped case. However, it will not survive in the soil during a rotation of 3 years or more into a non-host crop. We know that the fungus overwinters in infected crop debris and can persist from one season to the next in the same field. Alternaria solani is so widespread that it is difficult to escape it completely, but several cultural practices can help. The fungus can be seed-borne, so it is important to start with clean seed. The first line of defense against any disease is producing healthy plants and growing them in an environment that is as free of the pathogen as possible. Early varieties tend to be more susceptible. Genetic resistance also can be important. Maintaining good crop vigor throughout the season, with adequate water and nitrogen, helps plants resist early blight. Early blight invades the older, less vigorous leaves first, and moves up the plant to younger leaves. As plants age and the fruit load grows, nutritional demands are higher, and tomatoes become more susceptible to early blight. Susceptibility is also a factor in how successfully and rapidly the pathogen grows and reproduces in the plant. Generally, the same conditions that are good for early blight also favor another key fungal disease, Septoria leaf spot. Long periods of rain also favor the disease, if temperatures are warm. In New England, these conditions occur most often during July and August. Weather conditions that create long periods of dew at night, with night temperatures above 65☏ - and especially, above 70 ☏ - are the most favorable. Below 60☏, development is slower, and below 55☏, very little activity occurs. The fastest development occurs in the range between about 65 ☏ and 85☏. Temperature determines how fast these events happen. In both cases, the longer the period that leaves are wet, the better - for the pathogen. Growth of lesions and production of new spores are also favored by leaf moisture. The leaf surface must be wet in order for spores to germinate. What constitutes “favorable conditions”? There are two key factors: temperature and leaf-wetness. This rapid reproductive cycle explains why the disease can expand so rapidly and defoliate a crop within a matter of weeks. Under favorable conditions, this complete cycle - from a spore landing on a leaf to production of thousands of new spores - takes about one week. These lesions produce new spores, which are spread by wind or running water, or carried by workers or implements onto new foliage. Fungal mycelia grow and expand, producing characteristic brown, circular lesions with dark concentric rings like a target board. Early blight disease begins when Alternaria spores (conidia) land on the leaf surface, germinate, and penetrate the leaf tissue. In four years of trials, we have seen reductions of 9% to 52% in the total marketable fruit due to early blight, in unsprayed plots.Īlternaria solani, the organism that causes early blight, is a fungal pathogen that attacks several solanaceous crops including potato and eggplant. Uncontrolled, early blight can completely defoliate tomato plants and cut short the harvest. However, it is not until mid- to late August that we see rapid expansion of the disease throughout the foliage. In our disease management trials at the University of Massachusetts, and in farm fields, the first symptoms usually develop in mid to late July. Contrary to what its name suggests, this disease normally appears late in the season, as plants develop a full load of ripening fruit. Early blight is probably the most common and widespread of foliar diseases in field-grown tomatoes in New England. 7/29/2023 0 Comments Smallest hyundai suv modelsHyundai EXTER UV (small hatch crossover) is designed to ignite the passion for adventure in young, tech-savvy customers. Students also create a mockup or prototype of their designs to best determine how it could solve the problem and possibly how it would actually work in the real world. Next, students choose their best idea and visualize their design concept on paper or digitally on a computer. They then brainstorm ideas by using a creative tool such as a brainstorming exercise or inspiration from things around them. To create a design project, students first target a problem and research it. Through MYP Design lessons, students have the chance to use design thinking to develop their own projects. In the MYP Design Program, students have a chance to explore and learn more about design principles and design thinking. The IB’s goal is to foster curious, informed, self-confident, and caring students. MYP stands for Middle Years Program and is part of the International Baccalaureate’s (IB) educational program. Although science and design are not the same, they share similarities. Science teachers have lots of experience following a process (scientific method), gathering data, and evaluating results–these skills help with the design process. Science teachers can harness their knowledge of setting up experiments to teach MYP Design (e.g., engineering a paper water tank).Ī background in science provides teachers with solid skills to teach MYP Design. If you want to feel more ownership and investment in the teaching, you may want to develop your own units, but it takes time to develop lessons. If you inherit units from a previous teacher, you may want to use these. Many teachers who teach MYP Design for the first time, need ideas. This is another way of saying that our thoughts become a reality. Whatever a person frequently thinks and ponders upon, that becomes the inclination of his mind…If a person’s thinking is frequently imbued with ill-will… his mind is bent by that thinking imbued with ill-will… (MN19) This is what Buddha had to say about our thoughts: We must embrace others as ourselves and learn that only love and good karma can heal our planet. Basically, we can either live in such a way where everyone around us matters, or where no one matters except ourselves. On the other end of the spectrum, if we think in an angry, lower vibrational way, our reality will look different based on our intent and actions. We become what we think about the most, so if we think about love, we will become it. Positive feelings and intentions usually lead to more of the same, as the law of attraction states. By doing this, we can increase the vibration and frequency of the planet. If we choose to spread good karma and act in a non-violent, calm manner, we positively build our character. Our actions will become more selfless and giving as we increase feelings of love and compassion toward others. Then, this will trickle down to our actions, because good thoughts and positive speech can only inevitably lead to a desirable outcome.įor example, if we think about loving humanity and doing deeds that uplift those around us, we will speak kindly toward our family and peers. After we correct evil thoughts, our speech will reflect this. If we want to reverse bad karma, we must pay attention to our thoughts, as everything in existence stems from our thinking. Do you notice your ideas come from a loving place, wishing others and yourself well in life? Or, do you feel angry toward yourself and others? If we want to foster good karma, we must pay attention to our predominant thoughts first and foremost. Going back to the quote from Buddha, we see that karma builds from our actions, thoughts, and speech. However, there are plenty of good people out there who are loving, kind, and generous, who are bringing some much-needed karmic balance. Many people act out of anger, cruelty, and greed, which has gotten us to the place we’re in today. I think we can all agree that in our world, we have too much bad karma and not enough good karma. The Buddha listed six intentions that make up the force behind our actions:Īs you can see, the first three intentions are direct opposites of the last three. We first must establish the expectations that we will live by and then go out and practice them in the real world. Having good intentions means acting in such a way that goes along with our core beliefs. If we offer without love, these actions may lead to karmic debt in the future. For example, if we give money to a homeless person to look good on social media or for our gratification, the act becomes tainted by bad karma. So, the intentions behind our actions matter just as much as our actions. Intending, one does karma by way of body, speech, and intellect. However, in Buddhism, karma means intention. The translation of karma from Sanskrit is action. Also, the steps we take now will affect our lives in the future. They believe that our past actions influence situations in our current lives and that we must correct our thinking and behaviors to balance this karma. In religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism, the concept of karma comes up quite frequently. 7/29/2023 0 Comments Bioshock 2 remastered trainerWe also share information about your use of our website with our social media, advertising and analytics partners.
